Yolanda Gampel, 2005

Prof. Gampel has been in the forefront of integrating psychoanalytic theory and practice and emphasizing the centrality of psychoanalytic understanding of trauma in all cultures and countries. Through her personal history and her professional work, she has been able to establish significant connections between various cultural, linguistic and geographical traditions.

She is recognized for her deeply significant involvement as a psychoanalyst and a human being in the most significant issues of our times, with victims of war, terror, the Holocaust. Based in Israel she established an extensive volunteer project which trained mental health workers in Gaza in psychoanalytic psychotherapy Her work has crossed other, diverse ethnic, political, cultural, and social boarders and has led to widespread recognition of her achievement in combining socially significant, widespread therapeutic action with scholarly contributions to the field of psychoanalysis.
