Mary S. Sigourney died in 1988 and her will established a Trust for the purpose of recognizing past achievements by individuals and organizations whose significant contributions have generated new interest and activity in psychoanalysis and related disciplines. The Trust, established in 1989, is an independent private foundation, managed by two Trustees. The Trust grants annual awards on a rotating basis among three geographic areas worldwide. The invitation to participate in nominating recipients of the Sigourney Award is extended broadly within the boundaries of the psychoanalytic profession and related disciplines. See Award Criteria and Submit a Nomination. Nominees are evaluated on the basis of their work during the ten years proceeding the year of the Award. The Trust does not fund future activities. The Award includes a substantial cash prize. Three independent judges are chosen yearly to consider the nominees’ distinguished contributions to psychoanalysis. Individuals as well as educational or scientific organizations are eligible for the Award. See Award Criteria. The nominating and judging functions are strictly separated. The first Awards were made in 1990. Complete lists of those who have received the Award appear on the Recipients pages. |
